Restoration Period Project

One of the major forms of writing that was produced during this period was called Social Observation.  This form of writing tended to be nonfiction and could be found in formats such as diary entries, letters, or newspapers.
For this project you will pick one of the forms below and create one week's worth of observations from your own life.

A. Diary Entry -- You will write about your day.  Entries may include a description of the events of your day, personal thoughts, conversations you had with people, or general information about the day (the weather, major news events that you found interesting, television shows you may have watched).
You must write 7 days worth of diary entries.

B. Letters -- You will write a letter to someone (a friend, family member, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc.) The letter should be communicating some message to the person about your life and asking about them as well.  You will need to create 5 letters to at least 2 different people.

C. Newspaper -- You will write newspaper entries.  You can base your entries on actual events that take place during the week.  You will need to write 7 newspaper entries and they should be real not fiction.

Once you have selected a style you will type up your work and put it into the appropriate format.

A. Diary entries should be stapled together to look like an actual diary (book).
B. Letters will include a mailing address (you can put them in envelopes if you want them to look authentic or fold them to look like envelopes).
C. Newspaper should look like the front page of an actual newspaper.  (Example: You can cut and paste your stories onto the front page of an actual newspaper.)

This project is due March 3 (periods 2,4,6) or March 4 (periods 1,3,5)

Mrs. Manfra read...

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

If you are into plot twists and books that make you think then you are going to like this book.  The main characters are Nick and Amy Dunne -- a married couple from New York that move back to Missouri so that Nick can help out his family.  The author divides the book into three parts: his story, her story, and both of them together.  Your opinion about the characters will be changed from one part to another.
Gillian Flynn does an incredible job of creating characters that are believable and creates a story dealing with hot topics like domestic violence, the importance of public opinion, how difficult relationships and marriage can be, revenge and even staging your own disappearance.
The movie is already out, but I wanted to read the book first and I am glad I did.  If you like crime dramas and trying to figure out what will happen next this is a book for you.
