Reflections and upcoming assignments

First of all, thank you for the sonnets that were recited to me on Friday. It was very sweet and I appreciate you thinking of me. I truly have the best students around.

Now that we have held our own Tea Party in honor of Alice in Wonderland please write me a reflection of what you have learned from the novel. It does not have to be long. You can either post it as a comment, email me or write it out and turn it in on Tuesday or Wednesday. I need it no later than Wednesday. If you are posting a comment to the blog it must be before midnight on Wednesday or I will not give you points.

Make sure to bring your novels next week, especially if you have the version the has Through the Looking Glass because we are going to be doing a group activity with it.

Remember no school on Monday in honor of President's Day.

  1. Mrs.I had to return the book because it was a copy form the public library. do i check it out again?

I learned that we must look beyond the words in order to truly understand the meaning of them. When we do look beyond the literal meaning of things we find many possibilities.

  3. From the novel Alice in Wonderland,I have learned that as we grow up, we change our minds. Our minds are in constant change. Today we can think on one way, but tomorrow we can think on another.
In addition, I have learned that everything is not what it seems. An example of this is when Alice discovered that the beautiful garden was not more than white roses painted in red. In life not everything is perfect and true, and many people are not who they appear to be.

  5. Well i have learned many things from the novel "Alice In Wonderland". One being that the novel goes more in depth then the disney movie version. In my experience, well ive never really experienced the movie version nor book. So i guess i can say that i have learned alot since the novel is the first time i learned about alice in wonderland. I learned that the author has a vast imagination because he draws a mental picture everytime i read the book. Book wise, i learned that curiousity can often lead to adventure, in this case, whether its talking to caterpillars who smoke hookahs or talking to a cat that can turn invicible. The novel is an overall great story, so far, that everyone should read becasue it brings a great afventure as well as humor.

  6. From this novel I learned to be more mature and to think about what I'm going to do first because in Alice case it was a dream but in the real life if we do wrong decisions those can result in tragedies.

  7. Well, i wouldn't say i learned anything new from this book, but it did remind me of some things i forgot about. Throughout this book, Alice goes through really weird and pointless stuff, but a lot of those events happened because of her childish/rash behavior. Even though this book almost seemed like it had no point, it kinda makes you think "well, i definitely wouldn't do what she did." What i'm trying to say is that through this book i remembered when/how to be a kid, and when/how NOT to be one.

  8. What I Have Learned So Far is that Alice is another child entering young adulthood with the fears and anxietys that come with the experience. She is scared of growing up and not familiar with the physical changes attributed to puberty. Her sister has already been through that transformation that is how she can clearly picture wonderland in her imagination. This "wonderland" is a fiction of all the mood alterations that come with the new emotions of growing up.

  9. I learned a lot from the novel like the fact that it has so many more meanings to it then what people really think. Even using a 7-year-old girl as Alice had a reason behind it which was her naiveness. Every chapter and every character represents something. Alice's adventure represents her journey from childhood to adulthood. In the beginning of the book she can barely keep herself from crying and in the end she is able to hold herself down.

  10. Alice in Wonderland was an adventure. I learned many things that were behind the figure or language. I learned that Alice goes through many scenes where she doesn't know who she is and is always curious about everything that might get her into trouble. Also, I learned that in the beginning she doesn;t know how to keep fiction from non-fiction. Finally, she is quickly changing from childhood to adulthood and that why she has so much trouble knowing her identitiy because its always changing.

  11. My refelection on Alice and Wonderland is that Alice has issues with authority figures. Throughout the story Alice is introduced to characters who help her and tend to ignore her or leave. For instance, the mouse in the pool of tears, ignores Alice at first and then helps her only to find her a waste of his time and then leaves. The caterpillar helps her but has other matters to attend to. The Cheshire Cat helps Alice as needed and then disappears.

  12. What I learned from the book Alice in Wonderland is to look at things from different points of views and to never wander off on your own.

I think alice in wonderland is a very hard story not only to understand the moral lesson but also understanding the relation between educating the kids and the book. Reading over and over i concluded that my moral lesson from the story is {that kids usually do what we tell them not to do}. example. alice drink from the bottle saying POSition , she knows is bad and she still drink it

  14. What i learned from the novel Alice in Wonderland is the meaning of some words and illustrative sentences. I learned about riddles and doublets in the novel they also used logic and mathematics.

  15. i have learned that not everything seems as it is. A child may see the simple childish book but a teen or adult will most likely see the deeper meaning to many things in this book. for example in this book i had to read alot of things and not just take it as it is. i had to put some thought into what was said. for instance in most of the book it showed how childish we as humans can be, and how we need to learn to think before we act.

    (It is before Midnight)

Alice in wonderland, a great novel which I found to be quite the adventure. As I read I noticed how imaginative children can be and curious. Well of course Lewis Caroll wrote the book and made up the character but most children do act that way and most do have an imagination that knows no bounds. I am very glad I have read this book in you're class Ms.Manfra, it was a great read and a good surprise. I wouldve never expected reading such an entertaining book this year. I learned a bit from it as well. I learned that the mind of a child far surpasses our own, for they are the most open minded things on this earth. They question everything and answer questions with any fear of them being incorrect, a gift that we begin to lose as we become adults, Because since elementary school we are taught that being wrong and making mistakes is the worst thing we could do. but alright let me get off the subject of the education system. I loved this book and thank you for allowing us to read it. Im not exactly sure if this is the kind of assignment you were expecting but im pretty sure it is so im just gonna turn it in :)

Thank you for the Tea party as well, your a Great Teacher <3

  17. what ive learned from alice in wonderland has been incredible, besides that ive never read the book before; i got to know couple more characters. The book is so much more descriptive than the Disney movie. It has the eggy person, and many more characters like the duchess. Alice in wonderland has tought me that if you complain about things and argue with people; like alice; it will sure lead to trouble. This book has shown me just how crazy things can be in an imaginary world. It has shown me that just one person can come up with so many random yet complex ideas, and put them down in one little piece of literature called a book. I'm really glad we got to read this book, for the fact that i am a fan of alice in wonderland and this has been a great experience. Alice world was like noone elses, but isnt it how she wanted it tho? it kind of also teaches you to be satisfied with what you have, and to be good with how things are and work. I'm sure that after talking to so many mad people and being mistreated Alice learned the lesson. Appreciation is the key word for the moral of this story.
