Now that we have finished The Call of the Wild I would like you to take a moment and connect the novel to a movie, song or television show that demonstrates the concept of survival of the fittest, returning to your instincts, or the cruel treatment of animals.
You can either post your response to the blog, email me or write and turn into me a paragraph explaining your connection to the novel with a modern day movie, song or show.
You must submit your assignment by midnight on December 14th.
The assignment is worth 4 points.

The show Awkward is a good example of survival of the fittest in high school. She is an outsider that is trying to survive highschool being herself and not being peer presured.

The novel "The Call of the Wild" definitely demonstrates the same characteristics as the TV reality show "Survival of the Fittest." They are both alike in almost every way. In the book, Buck must become wild, which is the total opposite of what he was when the book started, in order to survive. In the Tv show, the people also needed to adapt and become "wild" in order to live under such conditions. They learned many skills such as hunting for their own, making fires, creating shelter for themselves and sadly enough, to never trust anybody. Buck went through all of these things. He quickly learned how to snatch food, how to keep himself warm, how to fight and avoid fights, and etc. In comparison, they grew from these experiences and overall, they took a walk in each other's shoes.
Hello This is Hector Quadri Answering for the Connecting to the novel.
ReplyDeleteIn reference to survival of the fittest and "Call Of The Wild" a movie that carries out that same concept is "Far And Away". Just like in "Call Of The Wild" the movie "Far and Away" (mostly takes place in America)the main protagonist endures hardships in order to try to stay alive. Both Characters as one in the book as well as in the movie had to work very hard and for long periods of time. Also both Protagonists had people that didn't like them which made their lives a lot harder and more dangerous and one false move couldv'e made their lives worse. All in all both stories have the same concept but not the same endings while truly finds what he wants in life while the other goes back to his ancestral ways and becomes a wild animal although it was for the better of him.
Am making a connection with a song called animal instincts by Mobb Deep. In the song they talk about how they have to adapt to things to try and survive. They might not want to but they have to do it and with out it they wont survive. They have no other choice but to do the things they do to adapt to their life's. That is why I compared the novel to this song because buck has to adapt to this new life if he wants to survive. -Jorge Perdomo, period 2-

I watched this move a long time ago. It was about a pack of Husky in Alaska or somewhere up north. The owner of the Husky had to leave Alaska because of medical condition. So, He left his husky behind chained with chains, hoping that he will return in few days. But, unfortunately, the owner couldn't return as he was expected. The husky got loose and they wondered in the colds. They didn't had food and they had to hunt there own food in the wild. Which it was hard for them because the never been in the wild because his owner always feed them. So, they got lost in the cold and faced many obstacle with other animal that is around in the wild. So it is kind of related to Buck's life from Call Of The Wild because Bucks had to face other animal around him and he had to learn how to survive by himself. And how they both faced many obstacle.

ReplyDeleteConnection to "Spirit" (a movie):
In this movie, the connection to Call of the Wild is very strong. You can find a little of everything, starting with the cruel treatment of animals, in this case this wild horse is captured and treated cruelly, in order to try to teach him obedience and fear toward the human race. Also in this movie, it was about the Spirit (the horse) being and keeping himself alive thanks to his innate instincts as a horse born in the wild. And of course, survival of the fittest is also presented in this movie, as the horse learns how to adapt himself to different environment and lifestyle.
