Chivalry Assignment

The code that guided knightly behavior was called chivalry or the chivalric code.

The Knight's Code of Chivalry was a moral system that stated all knights should protect others who can not protect themselves. It also included such values as: strength, discipline, loyalty, generosity and faith.

Part 1:
In your own words, answer the question: What is chivalry? or Do you think chivalry is dead?
Be honest with yourself and give some personal examples to back up your answer.

Part 2:
Interview five people by asking them the same question: What is chivalry?  or Do you think chivalry is dead? You have to ask at least one family memberone teacher/coach/administrator, and three people of your choice. Make sure to include their name, age and who they are.  Please write down their answer exactly as they tell you (whether they are right or wrong).

Due Tuesday, October 1 (Periods 2,4,6) and Wednesday, October 2 (Periods 1,3,5)

Clarifications

Dear students,

I know that there have been many schedule changes this week and I am not sure if they are done yet or not.
As far as I am concerned, we have completed Beowulf in class with the group presentations.
We have also been reviewing Pronoun agreement, which as I mentioned is important for the SAT/ACT tests (grammar sections).

In the coming weeks we will continue to cover important grammar areas that are on the SAT/ACT tests so it is important that you are in class.
I have received practice workbooks from Mr. Ochoa for the SAT and ACT tests.  We will be working with these practice booklets in class in preparation for the October tests.

If you still have not registered for the SAT the deadline is September 20th.
The deadline for the ACT is September 27.

My Periods 1,2,3, and 6 received the handout for the BigFuture website that you should be using to find four schools that you want to apply to by December.  You will be receiving a grade for this assignment and it will be due the first week of October.  The website address is https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/

*Progress Reports are coming out this coming week as well.  For the most part grades are up to date in the gradebook except of course for the students who have just come into my class.  I will get your grades from your previous teacher and you are responsible for completing my assignments starting September 16th.

September 11th Creative Writing Assignment

Next week is the 12th anniversary of the September 11th attacks and I would like for all of you to reflect on this event.  The expressions "Never Forget" and "Remember" are words that are seen almost everywhere when it comes to this day in American history.  We must learn from history so that the same mistakes and events do not repeat themselves.

With that said, for the purposes of this assignment I would like you to find an image that deals with September 11th or if you are artistic you can draw an image yourself.  Once you have the image I want you to write either a poem or short story from the perspective of that image.
For example:

With this image I would write from the perspective of a firefighter that was there and what they were going through.

Grading Rubric:
*If you write a poem it should be at least 24 lines long.  It does not have to rhyme.

*If you write a short story it should be at least 250 words or more.

*It must be typed, 12 point font, double spaced

Due:
September 11th (Periods 2&6) and September 12th (Periods 1 &3)
